Called "
tupan" in South Slavic countries and Bulgaria, "davul" in Turkey and "tabl ballady" in Arabic countries.
Drums are usually headed with goatskin. The
tupan is played with a big
drumstick on one side resulting in a deep "boom" sound and a very thin drumstick on the other resulting in a quick "tick" sound.
